"THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOTHES" WEAVES A MAGICAL, MUSICAL TALE
A Princely Parable for Children Comes to Life at the Kelsey Theatre Oct. 12-14, 2007
West Windsor, NJ (September 24, 2007) – Children young and old will enjoy non-stop music and laughter when Maurer Productions OnStage presents The Emperor’s New Clothes (www.mponstage.com). This exciting new musical adaptation of the classic tale made famous by Hans Christian Andersen is playing at Mercer County Community College’s Kelsey Theatre October 12th through the 14th 2007.
In this enchanting adaptation, Emperor Marcus the Third wonders how he can possibly run an empire when he's only 14 years old. In an attempt to appear more mature to his people, he accepts the credo that "clothes make the man," but soon finds himself the center of a revealing swindle. After getting himself in a royal mess, it is the lowly scrub boy who helps him learn the important lesson that no matter how grand or small you appear, the person who counts is the person inside.
The Emperor’s New Clothes is brought to the Kelsey Theatre stage by the same production team that brought you last season’s smash hit Winnie the Pooh, the Musical. This time, with Alycia Bauch-Cantor in the director’s chair, OnStage is bringing audiences a show that features the work of the hottest creative pairing on Broadway – Lynn Ahrens (Lyrics and Book) and Stephen Flaherty (Composer). Ahrens and Flaherty, who brought you such Broadway hits as Seussical the Musical, Ragtime, My Favorite Year and Lucky Stiff, keep the tempo quick, the music exciting and the story loads of fun.
OnStage’s production of The Emperor’s New Clothes features top talent from around the area. The cast includes Eric Leiggi of West Windsor as Emperor Marcus; Dominic Sannelli of Levittown as Arno the Scrub Boy; Monica Nordeen of Plainsboro as the Swindler; Rosie Karlin of Plainsboro as Deena the Royal Clothes Maker; and Scott Karlin of Plainsboro as William the Royal Advisor.
