West Windsor, NJ (February 24, 2008) – Singin' in the Rain, the most famous and beloved movie musical of all time, will be presented by Maurer Productions OnStage (www.mponstage.com) as a live stage show at Kelsey Theatre in West Windsor, NJ from March 28 through April 6, 2008. Directed by John Maurer of Ewing, this classic MGM musical has been faithfully and lovingly adapted for the stage from the original award-winning screenplay. Each unforgettable scene, song and dance is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number – complete with a live on stage rain storm! A public reception, with an opportunity to meet the cast and crew, will be held on opening night.
Originally released by MGM in 1952, the film version of Singin' in the Rain starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Conner, won numerous honors including several Academy Awards. In 2006, it was named by the American Film Institute as the number one movie musical of all time. Singin' in the Rain is a hysterically funny “backstage” musical set in 1927 Hollywood during the difficult transition from silent films to talking pictures. In the story, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are the darlings of the silent silver screen and the biggest stars at Monumental Pictures. But with the advent of “talkies”, the public demands musicals and the screechy-voiced Lina can’t sing or dance. With help from Don and his new girl friend, the golden-throated up-and-coming starlet Kathy Seldon, the studio cooks up a scheme to have Kathy sing and provide the on-screen voice for Lina. But when Lina learns the studio’s secret, its heart-break and hi-jinks for Don and Kathy.
